CAMAGÜEY.- The 26th edition of the Central American Mathematics Olympiad, to be held in Honduras from October 9th to 14th, will feature two students from this province: Heidy de la Caridad Rodríguez Fuentes and Liss Marian Estevez Suárez, both 11th-grade students at the Máximo Gómez Báez Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE, for its acronym in Spanish).
The Camagüey's students complete the group of four that make up the national team for the event, who, after passing several selection stages, are finalizing their preparation at the National Contest Center in Havana, as Estevez Suárez assured Adelante. For Heidy de la Caridad Rodríguez, the preparation in Camagüey was crucial: “We wouldn’t have achieved this without the support of our trainers and former Olympians,” she noted.
Representing Cuba for the first time at an event of this kind is a source of pride for both students of Camagüey, who hope to apply all their knowledge in pursuit of an excellent result for the country and the province.
“I hope all the effort we have made is worthwhile. We are going to give our best to bring home the best results. I can only thank my coaches in general, my friends, my family, and Cuba for this great opportunity,” emphasized Rodríguez Fuentes.
For her teammate Liss, this Olympiad represents a significant challenge for which they have prepared and are ready to face. “We hope to return with medals, for ourselves and for the great collective support we received at each stage, especially from my teammates from Camagüey who have made a great representation of the province,” she highlighted.
In this edition of the Central American Mathematics Olympiad, Camagüey's students aim to continue the winning streak of the recent representatives from the land of El Mayor in these competitions. The silver medal from Damián Fuentes Campos and the bronze from Alejandro Pedraza Guevara, both in 2022, demonstrate the quality of local trainers and students in these knowledge competitions.
