CAMAGÜEY.- Seven players from the Camagüey Bulls make up the list of the Cuban pre-Olympic preselection announced this afternoon in Havana, while no other was chosen to represent the country in the 3rd Caribbean Cup.
Pitchers Yariel Rodríguez and Frank Madan, outfielder Loidel Chapellí Jr., receiver Luis Gómez and infielders Yordanis Samón, Alexander Ayala and Humberto Bravo received the call to the group that will train to seek qualification for the Tokyo Olympic Games under the guidance of experienced mentors Armando Ferrer and Carlos Martí.
On the other hand, on the list that will travel to Curaçao to compete in the Caribbean competition, there are no athletes from Camagüey, not even the talented serpentine player Yosimar Cousín. This is a case that surprised everyone, not only because of Cousín's sporting quality, but also because last week he was summoned by the Cuban baseball authorities to receive the first dose of the Sovereign 02 vaccine, supposedly to integrate some of the two campuses.
Among the 24 players who will travel to the small Caribbean island under the command of manager Pablo Civil from Las Tunas, is the largest litter of future stars. The promising cast will begin their performance on May 8.
Twenty-three days later, the main team of the four letters will come into play in Florida, United States, in search of the passage to the Japanese capital. A few days before the cut must be made in the current roster of 38 to 24 athletes.
