CAMAGÜEY. The 37 pregnant women in the municipality of Jimaguayú, in the province, receive strict monitoring as part of the Maternal and Child Care Program, stated Dr. Carlos Fernández Cruz, the town's Director General of Health.

To ensure better care for them, he said, the maternity home, inaugurated in 2024, has six capacities, primarily for those at high risk or who live in areas far from the municipal capital.

He noted that at this institution, they are constantly supervised by specialists in Obstetrics and Comprehensive General Medicine, in addition to the care they receive from the nurse and the staff responsible for ensuring they receive adequate nutrition.

Pregnant woman Keren Oduardo Palomino is pleased to report that she has been able to get the rest she needs at this home to successfully carry her pregnancy to term.

She feels well cared for there, as her health is monitored daily, and if any additional tests or exams are necessary, transportation is available.

As part of the municipality's healthcare system, Fernández Cruz also mentioned the grandparents' home, a space that houses 30 seniors, including 83-year-old Argentina Álvarez Miranda.

For five years, she stated, she has been attending this institution daily, where everyone supports each other like a family, and where, she assures, each grandparent treasures a beautiful story.

Hers, she emphasized, is linked to teaching, as one of the greatest achievements of her life was being a literacy teacher and educator in the mountains of eastern Cuba.

In addition to the maternity home and the grandparents' home, Jimaguayú has 21 clinics, three of them in hard-to-reach areas where community outreach is provided by various specialists. Likewise, the rehabilitation room, genetics clinic, and dental clinic are also notable services.
