CAMAGÜEY .- The 16th International Symposium on Challenges in the Administration and Management of Cities left firsts in its farewell, gratitude to the participants and the invitation to return in 2026 to focus on challenges and opportunities of the historic urban landscape.

This edition opened a path of collaboration with the signing of a letter of intent between the Indo-American University of Quito, Ecuador, and the Office of the Historian of the City of Camagüey (OHCC)

Precisely, the presence and exchange here on February 1st and 2nd with experts from Uruguay, Mexico, Ecuador, France and Cuba, allowed us to verify the growing international recognition of the Symposium.

Among the regular personalities was Nilson Acosta Reyes, Vice President of the National Council of Cultural Heritage of Cuba. He received the 25th Anniversary Commemorative Medal of the OHCC, a coin with numismatic value.

Another special award was the Fulgencio Arambula Public Alarife Award for life 's work to María Isabel Carmenate Bringas, main coordinator of the academic program of this biennial event.

The president of the jury, architect Elizabeth Monteagudo, highlighted the sustained work of directing the Master Plan of the Office of the Historian of the City of Camagüey (OHCC) in favor of the city and its teaching work.

Carmenate Bringas has been the main manager of the update plan for the comprehensive development of the World Heritage area that has been registered on that UNESCO list since 2008.

They also took into account the results in “the social and sociocultural level evidenced in the direction of the international collaboration project of Creative Industries in the City of Camagüey and by the effort and love that it imposes on its work in transmitting knowledge,” she added.

Another good news shared at the Santa Cecilia Convention Center was the increase in the Network of the Offices of the Historian and the Conservator of the Heritage Cities of Cuba.

Patricia Rodríguez Alomá, Executive Secretary of the Network notified Radio Progreso of the approval of four new conservative offices in Sagua la Grande, Gibara, Cárdenas and Guanabacoa; therefore, the Network articulates 15 cities.

“I believe that what was done for the city and the results of this event have been important. Happy stay in what remains, and as the old people of Camagüey say: abur*”, concluded the host José Rodríguez Barreras, director of the OHCC.
