CAMAGÜEY.- The University of Camagüey (UC) Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz received this Wednesday the visit of a delegation headed by Dr. C. Herman Enmanuel Van Goethem, the rector of the University of Amberes, Belgium, one of the 33 nations that maintain collaboration agreements with the University of Camagüey.

The retinue was integrated, besides, by other four officers and scholars from this center that is one of the most prestigious young university centers in Europe, and exchanged ideas with the VLIR project leaders, members of the Board of Directors and the rector of the UC, Dr. C. Santiago Lajes Choy.

As main point of the gathering, Dr. Julio Madera Quintana, Vice rector of Computerization in the UC, presented a preliminary proposal of the VLIR-IUC project, from the investigation lines of the UC and with the objective of working to achieve in the provinces of Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey, Las Tunas and Granma the food security national impact and in the bases of the growth of Tourism.

During the meeting, the visiting rector and the one in the UC, presented a panoramic of the main features, work priorities and potentialities of their staffs, looking to continue to strengthen the cooperation bonds between this two institutions and to open new ways into the internationalization of their processes.

"I am deeply convinced that having a collaboration like the one we have and continue to strengthen will allow to work together to have better countries and a better world, from this cooperation we learn but it is also a solidarity product because in Belgium we have the possibility to support strong universities like yours, affected by international phenomena like the American blockade”, expressed the Belgian rector.

The schedule for this visit includes a tour around the Historical Center of the City of Camagüey, declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 2008.

With over 20 000 students, the University of Amberes is the third largest in the area of Flanders. It is characterized by its high education standards, international competitive research and the business focus in matters such as Economy and Applied Engineering, Design Science, Pharmaceutical, Biomedicine, Veterinary Science and Humanities, among others.
