CAMAGÜEY.- Cuba has modelled for many photographers inspired in the greatness of its natural and urban landscape. Someone as versed with the camera lens as the journalist from Camaguey Lázaro David Najarro Pujols is no exception, since he aproached the first enclaves founded in the country, back in the 16th century, with the exhibit Cuban Villages and Wonders, displayed in the gallery Julián Morales of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC, Spanish Acronym).

The author of the slides involves the observer in enjoying every place in all its greatness. It covers the soul of buildings of high architectural value, the imposing colonial fortresses, the squares, the streets and important public places that render the footprint of an endurable past in the memory of the present.

That is revealed by the wonderings through ancient villages such as Nuestra Señora de Asunción de Baracoa, San Salvador de Bayamo, la Santísima Trinidad de Cuba, Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe, Sancti Spíritus, San Cristóbal de La Habana y San Juan de los Remedios.

Distant and deep views and high angles are mixed to cover the ancient deelights that enchant both locals and visitors.

Along the greatness of the villages, there is the beauty of some of the most amazing natural places in these regions. Najarro catches the singularity of El Yunque de Baracoa, Las Trompas del Elefante, el Caburní with its waterfall and Santiago de Cuba Bay.

Another strength in the exhibit is the need to go beyond a fascinating image and a title. The thorough information about the history and the whims of time is always a reason to be grateful for the audience that is as diverse as its cognitive level.

The small sample of the traditions from the regions that star in the exhibit is also convenient. The most significant sample, for the most people that come to the gallery, is the one that portrays a moment of the San Juan Camagüeyano. In that instant we identify the symbols that make us think in our cultural heritage and in the pleasant sensation of feeling Cuban.

Lázaro David Najarro Pujols was born in Santa Cruz del Sur in 1954 and is a journalist for Radio Camagüey. He has earned about 40 prizes and mentions in journalistic and literary contests and national radio festivals.
