The 100 meters competition was the main course for the assitants to the Patricio Lumumba track, of the Camagüeyan capital, who were waiting for definitions in the rivalry between Mena and Yasnier Carrero, his partner in the square of the short reliefs.
This time the victory was for the first one, that equalled the record of the competition (in hands of Freddy Mayola since 2000) and -much more important- he overcame the juvenile national level, of the year 1973 and was in hands of the mythical Silvio Leonard (10.24, in the games celebrated in the Czech city of Prague).
Out of the rapid test the biggest expectation concentrated on the 110 meters hurdles of the first category, dominated by the Camagüeyan Yordan O'Farril, with a comfortable 13.54.
The remaining tests of the evening were in charge of Belkis Milanés from Santiago de Cuba and Camilo Roldán from Villa Clara, as well as Gilda Casanova (Isla de la Juventud) and Raidel Acea (Cienfuegos) were establishing their empire in the return to the oval without obstacles, and Arialys Gandulla was the leader among the ladies.
