CAMAGÜEY.- The delegation representing Camagüey at the 61st edition of the National School and Youth Games was officially presented at Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz Revolution Square.
The land of Agramonte will be represented by a total of 748 athletes, comprising 412 in the school category and 336 in the youth category. The province will also host four disciplines: rhythmic gymnastics, athletics, youth basketball (female), and youth wrestling for both genders.
Yoandris Armenteros, director of the School of Sports Initiation (EIDE, by its Spanish acronym), expressed in his keynote speech the commitment to strive for the best results.
The delegation's flag was handed over by Walter Simón Noris, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Camagüey, and Yuneisi Ramos Vázquez, a member of the Provincial Bureau, to athletes Jenifer Hani Ruiz Jimenez from rhythmic gymnastics and Samira Castro Marrero from chess; champions and runners-up, respectively, from the last edition of the National School Games.
The aspirations regarding results are to rank among the top five provinces and to surpass the seventh position from the last edition.
Additionally, it was favorable that all team sports for both genders secured their spots, which will contribute to the accumulation of points for the standings.
The director of EIDE Cerro Pelado explained, “Despite the situations and circumstances we have faced, the school never closed its doors, nor did the training and nutrition process for the kids stop. Starting June 20th, the youth athletes will be at the different competition venues, while the school athletes will compete in July”.
The event was attended by authorities from the Party and Government in the province, as well as all athletes and coaches who composed the delegation.
