CAMAGÜEY.- The return of soccer practice to sports facilities is the maximum aspiration of Moving the ball out of the squares, an event organized by the project Fútbol en los Barrios, a Social Phenomenon and the Office of the Historian of the City of Camagüey (OHCC).
After almost six months with activity limitations due to the coronavirus pandemic, history and sport join forces once again by promoting the most universal of sports away from the city's foundational squares and parks in an attempt to safeguard its heritage.
This weekend the teachers from different sports areas linked to this movement called their children together with the family to take a tour from Plaza del Carmen to the soccer field built on the banks of the Hatibonico River, as part of the initiative The City looks at its rivers.
Anisbel Guerra Sánchez, specialist at the OHCC and coordinator of the project, commented to Adelante Digital about the institution's commitment to conservation, since sometimes the practice of the most universal of sports threatens the structures and sculptural ensembles of the main squares of the Historical Center.
“By moving the ball out of the squares, it wants to publicize the existence of sports fields with real conditions for practice, many of them are located near the Old Town and are unknown to our population; in this way we promote sports and instill in our children and adolescents the need to take care of our city ”, stated the coordinator.
At this time, the main objective of the movement is to incorporate more children, especially from the founding section of the old Village of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe so that they know and understand through discussion and activities the importance of this project, which does not aspire to stop football fury.
Armando Manuel Cruz Guillen, director of the project Fútbol en los Barrios, a social phenomenon, expressed his satisfaction with the joint work of Inder and the OHCC: “I think it is a magnificent job; today there is a great inclination towards football on the part of our children and young people, with this idea we aspire to instill in them the importance of preserving history without slowing down their physical attitudes and disposition towards sport”.
Moving the ball out of the squares is a commitment to healthy fun and committed to the cultural and architectural heritage of Camagüey.
