CAMAGÜEY.- The Field Hockey National Commission announced this Monday the selection of the Camagüeyan Darián Valero as the Most Notorious Player of the year 2019 in Cuba.

According to a letter send to the Provincial Direction of Sports in Camagüey by the licensed Dauly Noriega, Cuban sports commissioner, “There is to point out Valero’s commitment and his performance in his position as defense of the national team”.

The executive also highlighted his excellent performance in the past Pan American Games in Lima 2019, even if the team did not meet the competitive purposes and stayed on sixth place.

With Darián as a leader, the provincial team got a deserved fourth place in the National Championship of the discipline, that was celebrated at the beginning of the year in Ciego de Ávila. In this contest, the boy of Lenin neighborhood was appointed Most Notorious Player.

He also deserved such distinction in the preparatory competition held by the Cuban selection in Barcelona, Spain, where they won three matches and tied as much.

“This recognition is very important for me, in a year where I was devoted entirely to the dream of a Pan American medal. The fact that the commission has selected me is very comforting since  we lost the medal and that hurt a lot. This fills me with energy to keep giving everything for my province and my country”, said Valero to Adelante after the announcement.

This appointment is added to the one of Best Male Athlete in Team Sports in 2018 in Camagüey, to ratify the good moment lived by the defense in his 15 year-old career within the national team.
