CAMAGÜEY.- That day, the radio stations in the city of Camagüey interrupted their usual transmissions to launch last-minute news flashes: a mysterious flying disc was progressing at high altitudes above the city. Immediatel, hundreds of people flooded city streets, squares, parks, flat roofs and roofs… trying to discover the craft, which would “launch a good atomic offense at least”, referring to the US media “bending our ears” with invading Martians.

The presence of the saucer granted us a privilege by inscribing on the track of space visits, and on the chapter of the study of science. A tremendous level!
Proven the presence of a brilliant spot above the city, that it appeared as it was moving forwards or backwards, or throwing rays of light, the press followed step by step the effects on the journey of the supposed Martians, keeping the population in vilo.

On the streets, some citizens proposedcollective prayers in order to avoid the evil. Others said that perhaps this was some political propaganda and the majority welcomed the visit to see if things improved, because things could get worse.

The “flying saucer” was on Camagüey two or three hours, doing nothing worthwhile. Eventually people stopped stretching their necks to look up at the sky. They went back to do chores, until, by sundown, some saw it retreating and getting lost in the infnity, leaving everyone stood up.

The following day, the Meteorological Station, from the airportIgnacio Agramonte, by then directedby the Pan American Airlines, sent a notre to the press: “...the Meteorological Station launched, as usual, a weather balloon for the study of the upper layers of the atmosphere. It looks like in its ascent, the balloon found a pocket of hot air that held it circling the city nearly static for some hours at a calculated altitude close to five thousand feet.

By nightfall, the drone fell at Santa Rosa estate, in Vertientes district”. And so far the momentous story that almost makes us hosts to a flying saucer, it went to hell in a handbasket like the weather balloon from January 31st 1950.
