HAVANA.- Next Saturday, the mayors of the 168 Cuban municipalities will be appointed, thus completing the reform of the public administration, as provided for in the Constitution of the Republic.
These officials, who will be proposed by the municipal assemblies of People's Power, will head the Municipal Administration Councils, according to the information published on the National Assembly's website.
The mayors, which existed during the colonial era, will reappear as a final step to the changes foreseen in the law of laws, which already led to the election of the president and vice president of the Republic, the Prime Minister and the provincial governors and vice governors.
Ana Mari Machado, vice president of the National Assembly of People's Power, said in a message on social media that this step is in line with the Constitution, strengthens the institutional structure and favors a permanent link with the people.
Governors and vice governors were elected last Saturday by the majority vote of municipal delegates and will take office next February 8.
