Both officials checked up the progress of the Memorandum of Understanding on sports cooperation that was signed in Havana during the visit to Cuba by Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, on November 23 and 24 last year.

In this exchange the Qatari holder praised the sporting successes achieved by Cuba, which placed the Caribbean nation in an important position among the leading sports powers in the world, and agreed with Placencia to maintain a direct dialogue to increase cooperation in this field between the two countries.

Salah Bin Ghanem also gave a detailed explanation on the progress of preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will host the Arab nation.

Placencia commended the recent activism of Qatar in organizing international sporting events like the FINA World Swimming Cup, Grand Prix of Fencing, AIBA World Boxing Championships and Paralympics World Championships in Athletics, the latter two with outstanding participation of Cuban athletes.
