CAMAGÜEY.– From August 9 to 13, the 22nd edition of the Literary Crusade will be held in Camagüey. The event is organized by the provincial branch of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS), with the collaboration of the Book Center, Ácana publishing house, the sociocultural project Golpe a Golpe, the Union of Young Communists, and the Provincial Directorate of Culture.

This edition will be dedicated to the 99th birthday of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro; the 68th anniversary of the death of the Saíz brothers; the International Youth Day; and to the recently deceased Camagüey writer Mariela Pérez-Castro.

“It also has the particularity of being the event that kicks off the series of activities in the territory honoring Fidel’s Centennial,” said José Xavier Guerra Carmenates, president of the AHS branch in Camagüey, at a press conference.

With the goal of bringing literature and art to different corners and spaces, three artistic brigades will visit communities and workplaces in the main municipality, Florida, Esmeralda, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Minas, Nuevitas, and Guáimaro. They also aim to reach Ciego de Ávila and Las Tunas.

The brigades will be composed of writers, improvisational poets (repentistas), tonadistas, trovadores, and singer-songwriters, both local and guests from Havana, Mayabeque, Villa Clara, Ciego de Ávila, Las Tunas, and Holguín.

Additionally, theoretical activities such as workshops, panels, and book presentations will take place.

One of the most anticipated moments will be the traditional Cantata on the eve of August 13, at the Plaza de la Solidaridad, with participation from associated members and honorary members of the organization.

The closing event will be held at the Casa de la Trova with a concert by the trovador Reynaldo Rodríguez and the awarding of the Bustos Domecq Contest.

As pre-event activities, on Thursday, the 7th, a tribute to Mariela Pérez Castro will be held at the Provincial Library, and on Friday, a meeting will be held with pregnant women at a maternity home.
