CAMAGÜEY.- The provincial act for the 58th anniversary of the declaration of Cuba as Territory Free of Illiteracy and Teachers’ Day took place on December 16 in this city.
At the theater of the pedagogic school Nicolás Guillén, recognitions were delivered to outstanding literacy educators and teachers of the province, by the hands of the authorities of the Cuban Communist Party and other political and mass organizations. There, the Special Award of the Ministry of Education and the commemorative stamp 55 anniversary of the union were granted.
A special moment within the celebration was the reading of the letter send by Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, minister of Education. The message, besides congratulating all the workers in the sector, insisted on the need of perfecting the methods to teach and thus accomplish the integral formation of the future of Cuba.
On the other hand, Isdel Cortés Lozano, provincial secretary of the Union of the Workers of Education, Science and Sports, compared the Cuban reality before and after the triumph of the Revolution and encouraged to value what we have today.
“It is thanks to their hard work and daily efforts that the province can now boast of being the fourth at a national level in the number of students that passed to higher education and the second in the encounter of pedagogic schools. Continue lifting Fidel’s legacy up, I am sure that he would be proud of us all”, concluded.
During the tribute act, it was disclosed that during 2019, the municipalities of Jimaguayú, Santa Cruz and Minas were the ones with the best result6s in the fulfillment of the pedagogic careers, while Sierra de Cubitas stood out in the admissions to Higher Education. Likewise, three Secondary Schools stood out in the continuity of studies: Antonio Maceo, in Camagüey; Rolando Espinosa, in Najasa; and Mártires de Minas, in the territory of the same name.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Direction of Education awarded a group of youngsters from the University of Camagüey for their contributions to the Camagüeyan educational system through the task Educando con Amor (Educating with Love).
