CAMAGÜEY- The third edition of the provincial workshop “Standing up against climate change”, organized by the Cuban Association of Technicians and Forest Agriculturists (Actaf, Spanish acronym), in the territory, will be held this November 20 at the Convention Center Santa Cecilia.
This is one of the most significant events within the daily work of this organization, by settling as a platform for the exchange of experiences and knowledge about the mitigation and adaptation to climate change, adding this way to the essence of the Tarea Vida, plan by the Cuban State for facing this environmental problem, according to declarations by Marlenis Puertas Medinas, communicator of the ACTAF.
In this edition, it will be discussed topics such as: risk and climate vulnerability analysis, water resources, plantation of soil protective species, among them mangrove and bamboo. In the case of this last one, considered as the steel of the XXI century, one of the goals is to educate the people about its multiple properties, beyond the artisan usage and award the second edition of the Contest ForestArt with Bammboo.
In the schedule of the event is included the conference “Marabú, invading plant in the Cuban fields” by Redimio Manuel Pedraza Olivera, doctor in Veterinary Science and tenure professor in the University of Camagüey and director of the provincial project that seeks to disclose the utilities of this species.
Created from one of the speeches of the Commander Fidel Castro Ruz in 2001, Standing up against climate change is set as a fundamental space for environmental culture and protection.
