CAMAGÜEY.- Until the end of June, the province of Camagüey registers a contribution of 487 thousand 900 pesos as a result of the progress of six local development projects, based on the joint strategy of the University of Camagüey (UC), the municipal governments and working groups created to promote that program.

These projects are concentrated in the municipalities of Camagüey and Nuevitas, and they are of ecological, socio-cultural and economic type, confirmed to ACN Carmen Hernández Requejo, vice president of the Council of the Provincial Administration.

For example, the Ecological Cut and Water Work Group, which emerged in Nuevitas, has so far captured almost half a million convertible pesos for the economy of the northern municipality in providing services to the business sector in several provinces.

The group of 17 divers carries out underwater dredging, location and extraction of submerged objects, demolition of underwater and terrestrial structures, using the technique of ecological cutting with diamonds, underwater welding and demolition and repair of bridges, according to a Radio Nuevitas report.

In dialogue with the ACN, Delfín Delgado Ramos, director of local development at UC, referred to other local projects executed in the city of Camagüey such as the Fairgrounds, the Casino Recreational Complex and the cultural-recreational in the old Cinema- theater Alkázar, which includes cabaret, a 3D movie theater and art gallery, among other services.

Delgado Ramos spoke of the Fishing and Industrial Company of Santa Cruz del Sur (EPISUR), where a small plant processes a wide variety of canned goods, another experience in the economic category that contributes one percent of its profits to the government of the demarcation.

This work is not part of their corporate purpose, but they offer a response to food production and import substitution.

The specialist explained that in general there are economic projects that contribute in CUC to the Municipal Administration Councils, of which one percent of their profits are taxed to the economy of the government in each locality, to socio-cultural and environmental institutions, and to the research, development and innovation plans.

Regarding the latter, he said that UC scientists and study groups are currently promoting 118 projects, of which 70% are focused on solving problems in the territories, one of the demands of the country's top management.

The University of Camagüey, first created in Cuba after the triumph of the Revolution, and its 13 Municipal University Centers, work on advice and knowledge management to create skills and knowledge in leaders and different actors, with the aim of accompanying the program of Local development.
