The Award for the Work of the Life was dedicated to the director of the Folkloric Ballet of Camagüey, in a gala celebrated this weekend, in the Principal theater of this city.
To grant the prize, the jury valued the extraordinary contribution to the traditional popular culture of the one who founded in 1991 the Folkloric Ballet of Camagüey, and stood out like artist of the dance, leading his company up to reaching a national and international prestige.
There was also extoled his work like musician, teacher of artistic education for over 28 years, composer, singer, choreographer and researcher.
Echemendía expressed his gratitude “for the opportunity of growing like honest man and turned into artist thanks to the Revolution”. He ensured that in over 40 years dedicated to the art he could have nourished of something so important as the traditional popular culture.
The Award of Dance honors the memory of Lorna Burdsall (1928-2010), outstanding ballerina and North American choreographer who lived in Cuba in the 50s, National Award of Dance 2008 and National Award of Artistic Education.
Echemendía also received the Distinction The Golden Age, granted by the Ministry of Culture for the work with the children.
