CAMAGÜEY.- The Nicolás Guillén International Festival and Colloquium will leave Havana for the first time to develop its 13th edition here, in the birthplace of the National Poet of Cuba, from July 6th to the 10th.
Guillén's work, thought and cultural heritage articulate the program of conferences, panels, concerts and other actions for the commemoration of the 120th anniversary of his birth.
"We believe that it should be a celebration of culture, academia, science, debates, and art in general," said Orlando Hernández Jiménez, vice president of the Nicolás Guillén Foundation, during a coordination visit.
Among the gifts to the city are the unveiling of a sculpture by Martha Jiménez in the Workers’ Square and the reopening of the Birthplace of Nicolás Guillén, and a concert by Tony Ávila in the Carmen’s Square.
A discussion table is also announced about the comprehensive affirmative approach to public policy of the Cuban Color National Program, against social inequalities and racism led by the Guillén Foundation.
In addition, the award ceremony for the 2022 Son contest “Con sentimiento sonero”, dedicated to the National Poet and as a tribute to Adalberto Álvarez, is announced.
Likewise, the album to Guillén will be shared, with the participation of artists from Camagüey, the production of Verónica Fernández, and the recording at the Caonao Studio, of the Recording and Musical Editions Company.
