CAMAGUEY.- The Vitocha International Folklore Festival, held in Sofia, Bulgaria, and which was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, awarded the first prize to the Camagua folklore company from this province.
Groups from 24 countries sent six-minute videos that were judged by an international jury in the Bulgarian capital.
Camagua, included in the Catalogue of Excellence of the Cuban Music Institute, presented a Cuban and a Bulgarian dance, both under the direction of Fernando Medrano, its director and choreographer.
The Cuban company participates every year in the summer in different international festivals held in Europe, where it honors the name of the Caribbean nation by demonstrating the value of its most genuine dance, musical and artistic traditions.
Among the most relevant are the Gold and Silver medals in 2007 and 2003, respectively, from the International Contest of Dijon, France, considered a classic among the dance and folkloric music competitions in the world.
