CAMAGÜEY.- As a good omen, the Ballet of Camagüey (BC) will dance the Nutcracker suite for the second consecutive year on the same day in December, very close to its birthday, although far from home to begin its fourth tour in Spain.
Director Regina Balaguer shared on her Facebook profile a photo of the cast, specialists and technicians, upon arriving in Madrid where on Friday December 1st, the company founded by Vicentina de la Torre celebrates 56 years.
On day two, the Alcobendas Theater offered the first performance of the version made by Norbe Risco, former BC dancer and current artistic director of the Kentucky Ballet Theater, premiered last year in the city of Camagüey.
Also in two acts, it followed the thread of the Christmas story around a broken gift and Clara's dream that motivated the work that was premiered in 1892 with choreography by Lev Ivanov, a book by Marius Petipa and music by Piotr I. Tchaikovsky.
From the poster, it is confirmed that the prima ballerina Rosa María Rodríguez Armengol assumed the lead role in The Sugar Plum Fairy, something she could not do in 2022 due to an injury, and in her place the soloist Shirley Suárez Huerta premiered it, who also participates in the so-called Christmas tour.
“From December 1st, until January 9th Christmas Tour with The Nutcracker. If the summer was already triumphant, the winter will be no less. Greetings to Spain and our followers”, highlighted the official profile.
The Camagüey Ballet made its third tour of the European nation between June and August 2023, with performances of Swan Lake in Barcelona and Madrid.
