CAMAGÜEY.-A founder of the National Film Criticism Workshop participated this year in the event with a presentation about his other creation: the Digital Encyclopedia of Cuban Audiovisual (ENDAC, for its acronym in Spanish). Adelante.cu shares its notes taken from Facebook:

“I know that the reference comes from very close, but I cannot help saying it: here is an extraordinary opportunity to navigate through the memory of cultural events that, since 1993, have left important traces in the cultural evolution of the city.

“What would be new about the page of the National Film Criticism Workshop in the Digital Encyclopedia of Cuban Audiovisual (ENDAC)?

“Well, we will not only be able to find information about each of the editions of the Workshop organized in Camagüey, but also the possibility of downloading several of the presentations presented (including the first one that was read in the first event), photos, posters, as well as directly appreciate some of the spots and audiovisual interviews carried out at different times.

But the page is much more than the simple sum of all this: it is something definitely unpublished. It is said by someone who at some point was in charge of putting together the “memories” of three Workshops in paper-based books.

"That same information, now in digital format, acquires an unforeseen dimension, especially because the possibility of connecting everything with a simple click, from a device connected to the network (the same as a computer or a telephone) stimulates the heuristic potential , and with it the construction of new knowledge, as would correspond to an academic forum of these characteristics.

“But the thing does not stop there, as the presence of the Workshop within the ENDAC allows us to think of it as part of broader scenarios, and not as a mere entelechy, or as something that is exhausted in itself.

“In other words, thanks to the labels we assign to it, we can think of the set of workshops, but also of the workshop as part of the set of events in Camagüey, or as part of the audiovisual culture of the city.

“We can start by consulting information on the various citations, and suddenly go on to examine the published Memoirs, which would lead us to look at the Catalog of Editorial Ácana, or to be interested in the various physical spaces in which the citations have been developed, and This would introduce us to what could be the history of Camagüey architecture at the service of the socialization of culture and art (say, to mention just two examples, the old Guerrero cinema or the Office of the Historian).

“I think that with the page of the Cinematographic Criticism Workshop at ENDAC an old dream would be fulfilled, which is to build a tool that allows the knowledge that is discussed there to be stored, preserved and disseminated.

“On the other hand, in a time like ours, that is, in a 4G Cuba, where Android threatens to widely surpass Windows as a modality that allows Internet access, a page of this type (interactive, dynamic and always in permanent construction), becomes an authentic Copernican turning point when it comes to thinking about the very existence of the Workshop ”.
