CAMAGÜEY.- The 2019 National Award Emilio Ballagas was granted to the poet Gizeh Portuondo Vega, who, from Santiago de Cuba, send to this city “Notas lectivas”, the winner of 22 notebooks in competition.

It is a set of poetic prose that manifests aesthetic unity, summarizing power and a remarkable use of cynicism, humor and subversion of the poetic discourse, with the personal view of her condition as a woman.

Rubén Faílde, from Camagüey, chaired the jury that united María Liliana Celorrio, from Las Tunas, and Oscar Cruz, from Santiago de Cuba, for the selection and the definite ruling.

The three highlighted the broad participation of authors and the average quality of the presentations, reasons to re-read the six final propositions, and the decition of granting a Mention to Domingo Peña González for “La torcida raíz”.
