CAMAGÜEY.- After meeting their rivals in the D key of the first division of the World Chess Olympiad, the members of the Cuba team are ready to start the actions starting this Wednesday.
The national team, which managed to advance to the elite last week by occupying the second place of the key E of the second class with 15 points out of 18 possible, will be accompanied by the squads of Turkey, Peru, Poland, the United States, Canada, Brazil, the Netherlands, England and Colombia.
For the opening day the Creoles will face a European trio, starting with the Dutch, to continue with England and close with Turkey. According to the calendar, on Thursday they will collide with Peru, Colombia and Poland and on Friday they will complete the task against the United States, Canada and Brazil.
The pre-competition forecasts do not give us much hope, since only the first two teams from each of the four groups qualify for the final stage. However, Camagüey Grand Master Carlos Daniel Albornoz told Adelante Digital that “you have to try to gain point by point without thinking much about qualifying. We don't have much to lose here and we do have a lot to learn ”.
Precisely the national champion, who will defend the first board, will compete from our newsroom together with his fellow countrywoman, FIDE Master Ineymig Hernández, one of the team's U20 players. For this stage of the competition, the organizers have reinforced the technological security measures before the verification of traps in the previous phase.
Competitors must now broadcast their games live on the Jitsi Meet platform, while their movements are captured by www.chess-results.com. This is to eliminate the possibilities of using robots or being assisted by personnel outside the fight, frauds that have already been evidenced and that harmed, for example, Ineymig. The rest of the rules are maintained, they will be games at 15 minutes, plus a five-second increment after each move, with the online support of the site www.chess.com.
