HAVANA.- The camagüeyan Juan Miguel Echevarría classified today for the final of long jump in the opening of the XVII edition of the World Athletics Championships, seated in Doha, Qatar, till October 6.
Echevarría, champion in the 2018 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, was the first jumper to guarantee a spot in the finals with a very good score of 8.40 meters (m), very superior to the 8.15 m demanded.
The pronounced athlete was seen very confident in Khalifa International Stadium, where he restated his serious pretensions of winning the title in a test that will dispute the medals on the coming Sunday.
Leader of the current season, with a record of 8,65 m, the jumper comes to this world appointment with the motivation of winning the final of the Diamond League in his modality.
Besides, he conquered the golden medal in the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, both events concluded last month in august.
This Friday in the inaugural date of this strong contest in Doha, Cuba will be represented by other five competitors, including the pole vaulter Yarisley Silva, Olympic sub-champion in London 2012 and world champion in Beijing 2015.
