CAMAGÜEY.- The Plain Bulls took the place of the Elephants as leaders of the 59th Cuban Baseball National Series after defeating them at their home this Sunday with a board of nine runs against six.
The captain Alexander Ayala led the bull’s attack with two home runs and just as many singles in five times at bat to gather two runs batted and to contribute to the fourth victory of the starter Frank Madan. The stout right-handed stayed undefeated in spite of admitting three earned runs in five complete innings, as a product of five hits and four base on balls.
Luis González, 4-3 with two earned runs and two runs batted, and Marino Luis, with two doubles in four turns, were the other engines in the visitors offensive, which produced sets of three runs in the second and third innings and closed with a run in each of the three final innings.
Cienfuegos was a worthy opponent, since after exploiting Madan, did the same with Ramón Robles – allowed a earned run in 1,2 innings-, Vicyohandri Odelín – did not get an out- and Dariel Góngora, who put up with two home runs in the eighth. Never the less, the closer Carlos Pérez Vergara put out the fire on the local’s bats in the stadium 5 de Septiembre with almost perfect 1.1, in which he gave a strike out and allow a home run.
The robust Juan Miguel Soriano, the emergent Félix Rodríguez and the electric Yusniel Ibáñez, who stayed as home run co-leader next to Frederich Cepeda with nine, batted hits for the Elephants. The locals batted a total of 12 hits, not enough against the 14 batted by their rivals, five of them before the pitches of the starter and looser Álex Pérez.
The 18th victory of the bulls had a double effect because it helped to remove the Elephants from the first place of the general chart, who have the same amount of victories, but an extra defeat (9). Half a game away from the Miguel Borroto group, there are also the teams of Sancti Spíritus and Santiago de Cuba, while Matanzas (17-10), Las Tunas (16-11), Pinar del Río (15-12) y La Isla (15-12) complete the rest of the positions.
This Monday at 2:00 p.m. the teams from Camagüey and Cienfuegos will face again looking for winning the first place of the Series and for us, the game is to be started by the right-handed Yariel Rodríguez.
