HAVANA.- Almost two million students will begin this Monday the 2019-2020 school year to continue their school education and become those who will lead the future of the country.

According to Ena Elsa Velazquez, Minister of Education (MINED), and Jose Ramon Saborido, Minister of Higher Education (MES), despite the country's difficult economic situation, they have the necessary resources to develop a good academic cycle.

Both ministers informed that in the case of MINED there will be an enrollment of 1.700.000 students, while in the universities there will be an approximate of 250.000 university students.

Regarding secondary education, more than 162.000 teachers are expected to be in classes, representing 95% of teaching coverage; while in the MES system there are some 32.000 professors, who, as Saborido said, constitute a highly skilled and qualified staff, with 30% of doctors of sciences and 56% teaching assistants.

Velazquez and Saborido agreed that material provision is still incomplete compared to the high demand, but they stressed that this is a prioritized sector and the necessary measures have already been taken to guarantee that the educational process achieves the required quality.
