CAMAGÜEY.— The Young Communists League (UJC, by its acronym in Spanish) and representatives from various sectors visited four sites in Camagüey yesterday associated with the presence and work of Fidel Castro Ruz, as part of activities marking the centenary of his birth.

 The day began at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), which welcomed the delegation for an exchange focused on historical memory. Participants learned about the center’s work, while a group of young workers received the Vanguardia distinction in recognition of their achievements and contributions in their respective fields.

 During the gathering, Yurisney Gil Monteagudo, first secretary of the UJC in the province, highlighted the responsibility of younger generations to uphold the legacy of the historic leader of the Revolution. “From Fidel, we learned to believe in the betterment of humanity, in the usefulness of virtue, and in the conviction that a better world is not only possible, but also necessary,” he said.

 The second stop was the Provincial Electric Company, where workers and UJC representatives took part in an exchange focused on the importance of the sector to the territory’s economic and social life.

 The itinerary continued at the Máximo Gómez Báez Pre-University Vocational Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE, by its acronym in Spanish), which Fidel inaugurated on September 1st, 1976. His presence on that occasion is part of the institution’s history as a school dedicated to educating students with an interest in the sciences. The meeting provided an opportunity to recall significant moments and reflect on the importance Fidel placed on education, science, and the development of younger generations.

 The Eduardo Agramonte Piña Provincial Pediatric Hospital hosted the final stop, with a meeting with the institution’s staff. The gathering highlighted the dedication of those who care for children and the contribution of younger generations to Camagüey’s healthcare system. Participants also shared a cake commemorating the centenary of Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth.

 The four sites visited offered participants an opportunity to explore different chapters of Fidel’s history in Camagüey and, through the fields of science, energy, education, and healthcare, recognize the commitment of those contributing to the province’s development.
