CAMAGÜEY — A large commercial fair featuring a wide variety of goods is being organized in the city for Saturday, May 9th, as a prelude to one of Cuba’s most cherished celebrations: Mother’s Day.
Despite the country’s ongoing economic hardships — worsened in recent months by new measures included in the U.S. embargo package — authorities say significant efforts have been made to improve access to products in high public demand.
As in previous years, participation has been coordinated across state enterprises, government institutions, and emerging non-state businesses in an effort to ensure a broad and diverse selection of merchandise capable of meeting the population’s main expectations.
Sales are expected to begin at 7:00 a.m., with commercial areas set up in the parking lot of the Cándido González Stadium, along the well-known Trocha del INRA, and on Avenida de La Libertad extending toward areas surrounding the CopaCabana Recreation and Cultural Center.
Among the products on offer will be rice, beans, vegetables, root crops, dairy products, sausages, and a wide range of prepared foods provided by units of the Municipal Company of Restaurants and Recreation Centers (EMURE). The rest of the municipalities across the province are also expected to join the initiative.
This Friday, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) hosted a special gathering honoring one hundred outstanding mothers connected to various sectors of society. Participants will share experiences about balancing professional responsibilities with family life amid the country’s current challenges.
