Under a context marked by economic constraints and the country’s challenging conditions, the summer season in Camagüey kicked off on July 5th, with the provincial capital as the main venue and the municipality of Minas as its secondary site. In a press conference, the Young Communist League (UJC) outlined the various activities planned for the coming weeks.

This summer will feature programs for all age groups, encompassing economic, social, historical, and recreational aspects. “We are making sure to reach all communities through the March 13 Guerrilla University Brigades and student groups,” said Heinier Lian Carvajo Baxter, First Secretary of the UJC in the province.

Festivities began with a street parade starting at Plaza de los Trabajadores, continuing to sites like Casino Campestre and Camilo Cienfuegos Amusement Park, where a variety of events are scheduled.

Throughout the season, activities will include UJC summer camps, pioneer camps (including one in Santa Lucía) to reward contest winners, historical tours, the summer music tour, socio-productive actions, and the Bailar en Cuba event hosted in Nuevitas. There will also be coordination with Campismo Popular to provide services to outstanding youth in various sectors.

Seidel Toledo Pimentel, Deputy Director of Culture, stated that the cultural sector will be involved in community outreach through sociocultural projects, carried out by cultural promoters and art instructors, although they are few, they are committed to this effort.

“From July 4th to 6th, the Areíto Circus tent was set up in Casino Campestre, as this attraction is very popular among families. Usual programs like the Peña del Dúo Confluencias at Parque Coppelia, Clowns at Your Service at Plaza de los Trabajadores, and karaoke nights at Dodos Café will also continue,” he added.

Camagüey’s Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz University will offer summer villas and camps, aimed at rewarding student leaders and recent graduates recognized as top performers.

Meanwhile, the Carlos J. Finlay University of Medical Sciences will continue its community projects, focusing especially on activities for the elderly. During one of their vacation weeks, students will also have the opportunity to assist in hospitals, demonstrating that this season will be not only about leisure, but also about contributing in times of scarcity.

For Camagüey’s UJC, this summer is a chance to connect deeply with every community. The plan is to reach the Consejos Populares, particularly those in designated transformation zones, ensuring that no one is left out of this season, guided by the slogan “Forever Young.”
