CAMAGÜEY. –The University of Camagüey was the province’s representative in the first edition of the regional event on technology International Challenge 2022, sponsored by the government of the Republic of Nicaragua through its National Center for Technology and Innovation Francis Moreno.

The Camagüey’s delegation (consisting of five representatives: a team leader, two graphic designers, and two software developers) participate in the field of augmented reality for immersive tourism experiences, where the main goal is to develop a hybrid mobile app with 360-degree panoramic views supporting sustainable city tourism in Nicaragua.

The virtual interaction day was held for eight hours of uninterrupted work at the provincial head office of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba (ETECSA), explain PhD. Ireyvis Montell Ramos, president of the base delegation of the Cuban Informatics Union (UIC) at the University of Camagüey, and team leader.

This technological marathon was aimed at creating and presenting real solutions that contribute to the productive development of the region; besides, its competitive approach will allow the best projects within the different categories to participate in a face-to-face format at the Technology Festival Hackaton Nicaragua 2022, the most relevant of this kind in the Central American country.

A team of the base delegation of the Cuban Informatics Union, of the University of Camagüey, is one of the selections who represented the island in the Hackthon Nicaragua 2022 which was developed last Thursday.

In this International Challenge of Creativity and Innovation, the Camagüey’s delegation is integrated by Keren Navarro y Luis Rubio, graphic designers, Eduardo Batista and Alejandro Manso, software developers, and PhD. Ireyvis Montell Ramos, team leader. All of them are professionals of the University’s Department of Informatics Resources. Reinaldo Alonso, president of the UIC was also present at the event.

“The idea of the event is that we are presented with a challenge that has to be solved with digital solutions based on technological innovation. We participate in the category Videogames using augmented reality and virtual journey through Unity as development engine for the project’s design and implementation”, explained Montell Ramos.

“It is important to be part of this kind of project representing Cuba; and particularly, it is aprivilegefor the University of Camagüey. This enriching experience challenges us from now on to step further regarding digital innovation to worthily represent the development of this sector in the country”, added Montell Ramos.

Along with the multidisciplinary team from our province, six representatives from our country participated in this innovative meeting, as well as other groups of innovators from Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Venezuela, and the host country.
