CAMAGÜEY.- The province is going through the worst moment regarding the transmission of the disease, not only this year, also adding the cases of 2020. All the municipalities present confirmed cases and 12 of the 13 territories have rates above 20 cases per every 100,000 inhabitants, the permissible limit for the new normal phase.
This was stated by Dr. Reinaldo Pons Vázquez, provincial director of Health, who argued that the rate in the province now rises to 133.6 and the trend is to increase, "the highest we have had, with an increase of 80 percent compared to the previous 14 days. The highest rates: Camagüey, Nuevitas, Vertientes and Florida, in that order, all with a tendency to increase, ”he said.
These last cases present a high number of contacts with a predominance outside the home. The doctor added that the week with the highest number of positives was the last with more than 500 cases -71.1 patients diagnosed per day-, but the last three averaged more than 300 cases. In the last two weeks, cases increased by 40% over one week to the next.
"Although it is true that ages above 60 years are at greater risk, today transmission predominates in the group between 26 and 40 years old."
There are already 599 diagnosed children, right now 70 active and four of them are under one year old, and for the first time a two-month-old child is in serious condition. Until April, 250 children had been admitted and in May and so far in June that figure has been exceeded.
In the intensive therapies until the end of April only 78 patients had arrived and in May alone there were 140 and so far in June there are already 92 cases, which makes evident the aggressiveness of the strains that are circulating, as well as their virulence and level of contagiousness, scientifically recognized for the South African strain.
All those who have gone to therapy have had comorbidities including young people, they have been hypertensive and 80 percent have been diabetic, in addition, with a high incidence of obesity as well, so they are reaffirmed as high risk factors.
In January four people died, in February seven, in March three, in April six, but in May there were already 25 deaths and until June 14th the province had 16 deaths, just in the middle of the month. Also, the average income figure has exceeded one hundred income per day in the last three days.
These data explain the seriousness of the epidemiological situation in the territory, with a transmission never seen since March 2020 to date, so that extreme containment measures have become a question of survival of a virus that costs lives.
