CAMAGÜEY - The University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz (UC) It will reach its 53rd anniversary of its founding on November 6, with important results despite the contingencies caused by COVID-19.
The UC lived an atypical school year, as all Cuba, due to the current epidemiological situation. Since March, curricular adjustments, reorganization of class shifts and planning of distance studies were part of the new routines of the center.
In the stage 1 461 professionals graduated, 680 by meetings and distance education and 781 in the day course, including 26 from other nations. There were 17 graduations: five at the headquarters and the rest at the Municipal University Centers.
The UC restarted the 2019-2020 school year with a total of 2 837 continuing students, but without sharing physical space in the same period. The entrance was staggered and on September 1st they received only 1916 students, of which 650 were scholarship holders in the first block.
“At the beginning the idea was that while these scholarship students traveled to their provinces for 15 days, the other 700 would come to the center to receive their classes and so on, however circumstances changed in Ciego de Avila and with them our planning. We decided to leave the first 1 916 students full time, we concentrated the contents y we adapted the dates of the exams”, explained Santiago Lajes Choy, UC's rector.
“For young people from Ciego de Avila, a new methodological plan is being designed that will allow them to conclude contents at a distance. The classes that need the presence of teachers are left for the next course from February 1st and if the sanitary conditions allow it, perhaps they can be moved up to January. We ask everyone to be calm and confident as they will finish their year. We will not leave any of them abandoned”.
After an important effort by the House of Higher Studies and the Ministry of Transportation, the return of the studentes to Las Tunas, Holguin and Ciego de Avila was made concrete.
