CAMAGÜEY.- The first case detected in the province with the coronavirus COVID-19, is isolated and with the necessary guarantees for his care and recovery in the Amalia Simoni clinical surgical hospital, in this city, where the tests were performed and sent to the relevant laboratories. In fact, it is the only one in these conditions outside the capital of the country.
This was reported to the press by Dr. Reinaldo Pons Vázquez, provincial director of Public Health, who added that the sixth of the seven patients reported in Cuba maintains good general condition without chronic underlying diseases. A 38-year-old cruise ship worker, he was quarantined there without symptoms. He arrived in Havana on March 14 accompanied by another person and both traveled in a truck with all conditions to Camagüey.
The person who accompanied him is admitted under epidemiological surveillance in the mentioned hospital center, as well as the contacts of both, so far without symptoms. Pons Vázquez recognized the promptness with which the mother of the affected resident in the Jayamá distribution acted, who is over 70 years old, and, realizing the symptoms of her son, immediately transferred him to the nearest health center: the Polyclinic Julio Antonio Mella.
He also reported that Camagüey has 98 beds for these cases. As of Wednesday, there are 31 inmates, 11 of them reported as suspects and 19 under surveillance. They are all Cubans who have entered from other nations.
The manager assured that epidemiological surveillance actions are increased, as well as the organization of the health system with appropriately trained medical personnel and the integration of all the organizations in society based on their different responsibilities.
He emphasized that the population's perception of risk is also required and that they take care of their own health, that of their family and their environment through targeted hygienic-sanitary measures, such as: frequent hand washing, not touching eyes, nose or mouth, avoid attending places with crowds, keep a meter and a half from the others, avoid kisses and wave by offering a hand.
