SIBANICÚ, CAMAGÜEY.- On the dawn of the Sunday, started the sugar harvest 2019-2020 in Cuba in the Camagüeyan sugar plant Siboney, and the workers of the “Carlos Manuel de Céspedes”, intensify the industrial repairs to support in the next hours the grinding of the symbolic factory in the municipality of Sibanicú.

Jorge Ramón Valdivia Velázquez, manager of the Siboney, informed Adelante Digital that the past Tuesday they successfully performed the general test of the machinery, which allowed to start the grinding before the date initially scheduled.

With sugar canes of their own and about 65 000 tons that will be send from the plantings in the Argentina plant in Florida, which industry will not process raw in this period, the same as Brazil plant, in Esmeralda, because of a technological and operational malfunction the last sugar harvest, the Siboney will produce over 19 900 tons of sugar in 157 productive days.

Valdivia Velázquez explained that the largest production of this plant in the last decade – 21 241 tons -, happened during the harvest 2014-2015, in a rhythm of 139,7 tons of average sugar in 152 working days.

A relief for this hardworking staff that saw impossible – the last harvest – the winning season of 16 technical-economical plans fulfilled consecutively, in which all the quality sugar made in the present harvest will be in bulk and destined to the exportation, result that, if accomplished, will enable to rise the salaries of the factory workers and cane producers, according to the qualitative state of the raw materials supplied to the plant.

This performance will also depend in great measure to the better use of the three storage and cleaning centers ready for use: Número Tres and Mola, in Sibanicú, and La China, in Florida, will will imply, besides the decrease of odd materials to the machinery, the more efficient use of railway transportation as an alternative to the poor state of the cane roads.

The strategy of the Sugar Company in Camagüey of buying time, in spite of the shortage of material resources or the late arrival of these to the plants in repair, foresees to bring in also the production of raw, in the current November, to the plants Panama and Batalla de las Guásimas in the municipality of Vertientes.
