CAMAGÜEY.-The group of participants in the workshop of historical and archaeological studies, after several indications during the excavations, found human bones in the section corresponding to José Martí Park, a site related to cultural, religious and social development of this city.

"From day one we found dental pieces, and we assumed that there could be a burial in that area. Although we did a treatment with acetate to avoid damage, it is very delicate to remove it because it is in a place with a lot of moisture. We must also take care that the rays of the sun do not give directly because it could rot easily, "said Maria del Carmen Alemana Vázquez, specialist in zooarchaeology of the Directorate of Research.

On the peculiarities of the finding, commented the archaeologist Jenny Patricia Mujica Olario: "We faced a burial of secondary type, ie, when the remains have been exhumed and redeposited. If they had been arranged in an extended manner, as he was buried, he would have been primary. "

The specialist added that, in the space of the old shirt factory, although evidence of human bones has not been discovered, it has been identified several pieces of pottery, ceramics and remnants of diet such as cow and pork bones.

According to the researcher in history of the Archdiocese of Camagüey, Amparo Fernandez y Galera, there is reference in documents of the time that in the seventeenth century there were more than 60 burials in the field where the church was located San Francisco de Asís.
