CAMAGÜEY.— After a series of postponements and adjustments brought on by the country’s complex circumstances, the Book Fair will finally arrive in Camagüey from Friday, August 28, through Sunday, August 30, becoming one of the city’s main events to mark the end of the summer season.
This year’s edition is dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Fidel Castro Ruz, the 65th anniversary of UNEAC, Russia, writers Marilyn Bobes and José Bell Lara, and Camagüey writer Yoandra F. Santana Perdomo. The three-day event will bring a wide-ranging literary, artistic, and cultural program to venues across the city.
The Casino Campestre will once again host a large portion of the activities, with book sales areas, artistic events, and the main stage. According to Osmany Brito Febles, who oversees book sales in Camagüey, 74 titles will be available, including classics of world literature featured in the Biblioteca del Pueblo collection.
As a new feature this year, the fair will include a tent dedicated to the ArteCómic project, which champions comics and graphic art as tools for defending cultural identities and fostering values. The space will feature comic-book productions as well as a special issue of the magazine Zunzún devoted to the Code for Children, Childhood, and Youth.
Digital books will also have a place at the fair, with presentations from the Libros (digitales) que construyen saberes program, alongside activities organized by UNEAC, the Nicolás Guillén Foundation, the AHS, and other institutions.
The fair’s theoretical program will open on Friday with the panel Historia y vigencia, devoted to Fidel’s centenary, followed by the presentation of Fidel: Pedagogo de la Revolución, by Felipe de Jesús Pérez Cruz and Ida María Ayala Rodríguez.
